Microsoft to acquire Nokia devices and services unit

Microsoft, the world's largest software company, will acquire Nokia, a leading mobile handset maker. Nokia had been releasing Windows Phones for a while now, so the news of Microsoft buying the firm is of little surprise.

Nokia was the number one mobile phone maker until its handsets were overtaken in terms of style and function with the likes of Apple's iPhone and the Android phones, more specifically those made by Samsung. In fact, Samsung is now the leading mobile phone maker. Nokia is next with its unbeatable line-up of feature phones plus a reputation of creating durable phones. Nokia didn't jump on the Android bandwagon though, instead it closed a deal with Microsoft and released its Lumia range of Windows Phones. It didn't quite helped Nokia in the High-End line, eating the dust of iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy series. Their mid-range and budget offerings are proving to be better that same-priced Android choices. With Microsoft's acquisition (worth approximately $7.2 billion), here's hoping that they bring back Nokia's former glory.
