Blackberry Bold 2 9700

The Blackberry Bold 9700 is the second in the series of the Bold family of Blackberry from Canadian firm Research in Motion. It has a different look than the 9000, the latter being visibly wider. I liked the look of the 9700 though, its sexier. More of their differences after the jump.

The Good:

Camera with higher resolution Compared with its predecessor, the 9700's camera is up with 3.2MP, but still lower that most phones (5MP and 8MP).

QWERTY keyboard: No doubt the keyboard makes messaging easy and efficient. It is for this reason that business professionals use Blackberry phones.

Blackberry Internet Services (BIS): Blackberry has its server for Messaging (BBM) and other network services which are highly encrypted and is very ideal, again, for business persons.

Battery: Battery life is doubled compared with the 9000, maybe because of the slightly smaller screen, or because of the optimizations on OS 6. Whatever the cause, the Bold 2 9700 will hold more than enough juice for your daily use.

The Bad:

Slightly narrower keyboard: If you're used to the keyboard of the 9000, then you'll notice the slightly cramped keyboard of the 9700. Over time, you'll get used to it though, except if you have really fat fingers.

CPU: Blackberry's operating systems doesn't require faster processors, although on paper a faster processor is still ticks the box for those in the lookout of smartphones. Battery life benefits the most out of it, for justification's sake. But still - in this gigahertz era of mobile computing, sub-1GHz phones sounds low-end.

Internet (Data) connection: Internet connection is controlled via a link to the Blackberry servers, and when you are not subscribed to the Blackberry Internet Service, chances are, some of your apps won't work, even if you're connected to Wi-Fi. E-mail clients on Blackberry depend on this service.

Small Screen: With the advent of big touchscreen phones, this phone's screen is on the small side. And it's smaller than the 9000 by a bit.

Overall:

The Bold 2 9700 is the phone I am using now. I love the style of this phone, makes me look very professional. But for those who have fat fingers, I suggest the Bold 3 9650 (which is a supposed-to-be Tour 2). I'll keep my 9700 for a while though, still enjoying it.
